A CASE OF WHO TOLD YOU 2

“From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day. Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!” But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”” Matthew 16:21-23 NKJV

HAPPY DAY TO YOU: Two days ago, we started with the question “Who Told You”? The question “Who told you?” suggests that there are more than one person who were able to talk to Adam. When God spoke to Adam, He simply gave Adam instruction without persuasion. Then Satan came and spoke to Eve to contravene God’s instruction with persuasion. He persuaded Eve to know herself and her capabilities to be like God outside God. Self and independence from God entered mankind. He changed God’s glory for man’s glory and man truly died. He lost the glory and covering of God and began to talk to himself about what is good or bad for him. He became mindful of the things of man rather than of God. 

The outplaying of this happened between Jesus and Peter on Jesus’ way to the cross. Death is feared by man and no one wants to die. Death is considered bad. God gave Jesus the instruction to die on the cross and rise again from death that man may be free from eternal death. However, Peter did not have the mind of God but of self preservation and he tried Satan’s persuasion to Eve in the Garden of Eden again. Jesus rebuked Satan directly and decided to follow through with the mind of God. 

How do you know who is talking to you? When your persuasion is SELF INTEREST AND PRESERVATION, then that is Satan speaking to you. Self interest and preservation is the root of all the evils that man does. It is also the root of all bad emotions and motives. It is empowered and fuelled through fear. Pause to have a quick check of the motive behind what you want to do then you will know who is talking to you or through you.

Today’s Exercise: Thank You Lord for showing me how to recognise who is talking to me. Help me to put obeying You above all else in my life. Say to yourself ten times and as often as you remember or about to take a decision “I choose God’s mindedness over self mindedness at all times”.
