July 9. Proverbs ch 16-18
WHO CAN HEAR GOD SPEAK?
Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord? And who shall stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to what is false and does not swear deceitfully. He will receive blessing from the Lord and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
Psalm 24:3-5 ESV
GOOD DAY: Theoretically, everyone can and should hear God but in reality, most people don’t because they either do not desire to or do not believe He speaks. God continues to speak as long as people are living in this incarnation and needing direction. I love to hear God because of the peace, joy and light I experience anytime I hear what He says about any situation. I have learnt that two people cannot walk together unless they agree. Amos 3:3. God is Spirit. I am a spirit being too in a body. To hear God, I must use my spirit nature. This is how it works with God,
“And I will raise up for myself a faithful priest, who shall do according to what is in my heart and in my mind.” 1 Samuel 2:35a ESV. Heart or Spirit of God and His mind. Again God said: “...and have built the high places of Baal to burn their sons in the fire as burnt offerings to Baal, which I did not command or decree, nor did it come into my mind—”
Jeremiah 19:5 ESV
To burn their sons to Baal did not come into God’s mind. So the thoughts of the Spirit are transferred to the mind and man processes the information with his mind. This implies that for a person to stand before God and hear Him, he must fulfill Psalm 24:3-5 that we are meditating today. Jesus said ” Blessed are the.pure in heart for they shall see God.” Matthew 5:8. To hear God, you must desire it and ask for it. You also must be willing to obey whatever He says. Your heart must be pure with the word and thought of God. If this is not so, you will be like young Samuel who heard God but did not know who was talking to him. As a grown man desiring to hear God speak, you must be familiar with His word so that His word can guide your thoughts and you will experience the feeling of being obedient to Him. That feeling will be your litmus test for if you have heard God on a matter of not. Remember Cain and Abel. Cain’s feeling was what gave the indication that he did not please God.
PRAY: Dear Lord and Father, give me the desire to hear and obey you always.
