DISCIPLINE YOUR BODY

KEEP THE BODY UNDER
Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.
1 Corinthians 9:25-27 ESV
GOOD DAY: The body is a strong influencer of our souls and our destinies. It is the part that relates with the outside world. It consists of the inner organs of the body and the outer parts and senses. It is so difficult to discipline it and if not disciplined, it affects spiritual growth. I find from experience that too much food makes thinking and being still in my mind difficult. Some foods I like are even as good as sedatives because that is the way I feel after eating them. The body has urges like romantic urges. Once that comes and is not controlled, the mind sets on it and any contact with the Holy Spirit becomes difficult. A person can preach the word of God with miracles happening and people getting saved and ministered to yet if he cannot discipline his body, he will still be doing things unbecoming of a Christian. We each have areas of our bodies that we cannot control. For some it is too much sleep that breeds laziness. When you start having excuses for what you should be doing that you are not and your body is comfortable, then discipline it.
How do I discipline my body? First, I talk to my body. I say to it what I want it to do. And second, I deny it of whatever I feel is not right for my spiritual growth or the health of the body itself. The best way is to practice denying the body of what it demands from time to time and make sure it does not prevent you from performing your intentions.
PRAY: Dear Lord, the body shouts loud and is difficult to put under. Please give me the strength to train or discipline my body so it will not keep me from my blessings.
Examples of people who did not discipline their bodies: Esau, Samson, king Solomon.
