EFFECTIVE FAITH

“And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires. In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God’s promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone. The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 2 Peter 1:4–8 NLT

HAPPY DAY TO YOU: Faith is living a godly life in a corrupt world. To this effect, He gave us everything we need to live His life through the great and precious promises in His Word. These promises help us to share in His divine nature that identify us as children of God. It is as we live by these promises that we add flesh to our faith.

God is love. Love is one of the words that have been overused to the point of losing its meaning. Love is not a feeling but a commitment we deliberately make to live by the virtues of godly nature. For example, a man once misunderstood my offer to help for a chance to cheat him and chose not only to fight me but cursed me with some serious unprintable curses from the depth of his being. I responded by praying for him and blessing him in return. I send love and peace to him in prayer and I have peace of God while he keeps being alert for fear of what I could do. I have the peace of God in me and what he meant to hurt me turns out to lift me. This is putting flesh to “love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” We shall talk more on putting flesh to the teaching of faith in later days. Today, see how you can apply a promise of God in responding to situations in your life.

Today’s Exercise: Thank you Lord for showing me that faith is not just about miracles but a lifestyle of Your nature. Help me to understand and live Your promises out.
