FAITH COMPANION

HAPPY DAY TO YOU: We live by faith yet it is a topic we understand least. Many times, we get disappointed when what we do in faith or expect by faith does not give our desired result. I have had the experience several times. As I was asking the Holy Spirit for what to write today, my thought settled on “faith works through love.” That led me to our text today. Faith has many sources. Faith in Christ is what we are focused on. To make it clear, you can have faith in yourself, in some philosophy, in a god and as many things as possible. But faith in Christ works through love. To understand love, we go to 1 Corinthians 13. “Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away. But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:4–8, 13 NASB1995.  For faith in Christ to be potent, it must be accompanied with love. Love in Christ is inward and outward. Inward because you must love yourself. Outward because you must love your neighbour with the same love that you have for yourself. We shall continue to consider the outworking of faith tomorrow but for today, think on this and apply it to your life.

Today’s Exercise: Father, I have always been confused on the issue of faith. Thank you for bringing it up and helping me to understand it. Say to yourself as often as possible (I will love myself and others with the love of Christ Jesus.)
