KNOW THE MANNER OF THE SPIRIT YOU ARE OF

“And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?” But He turned and rebuked them, and said, “You do not know what manner of spirit you are of. For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them.” And they went to another village.” Luke 9:54–56 NKJV

HAPPY DAY TO YOU: The people of the Samaritan village in the above story clearly resisted Jesus from performing His purpose. Jesus not only had the power to call down fire from heaven to consume the people but He had given power to His disciples as well. Do you see any semblance between the disposition of today’s church and that of the apostles to this attack? Jesus called the attention of the disciples to know the manner of spirit they are of. Christians today engage in all forms of spiritual warfare calling down fire and brimstone on their enemies. Some even know the enemy spirits more than they know the Holy Spirit! We forget that the spirits are not out of but within man himself. No wonder the spirits hardly leave any of their victims rather they inhabit more people.
It is time for believers to know the manner of spirit they are of so they can fulfill their purpose of establishing the kingdom of God here on earth. The Holy Spirit speaking through apostle Jude gave the instruction on how to deal with contrary spirits thus “Even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil over the body of Moses, dared not insult or slander him, but simply said, “The Lord Yahweh rebuke you!”” Jude (Judah) 1:9 TPT
Ask God to rebuke any spirit that keeps you from the knowledge of God and He sure will when you pray with the whole of your heart.

Today’s Exercise: Thank You Lord for calling my attention to know the spirit I am of. Say to yourself ten times and as often as possible “I choose to know the Holy Spirit and listen to His instructions always”.
