April 15. Nehemiah ch 4-7
THE RICH FOOLISH MAN
“Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” But he said to him, “Man, who made me a judge or arbitrator over you?” And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” And he told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man produced plentifully, and he thought to himself, ‘What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”‘ But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’” Luke 12:13-20 ESV
GOOD DAY: I heard the news of Mr. X’s (name withheld) passing away overnight in his room. His overwhelmed wife called everyone in the area to come and help her out. His gate that had been locked against anybody coming in was flung open and people gathered in the house trying to put him in his car and calm the wife down. The person who told me said “mummy, I too went in. The house is so big and furnished like a palace. I moved from one executive chair to another in the sitting room and I wondered how useless it is to keep struggling for possessions in life. There is actually nothing worth fighting for in life. Life itself does not belong to man, it belongs to God and we are only given to have for a while by the owner. Possessions are not life. The day God demands for His life from man, his possessions become useless to him. When a person fights for inheritance, think, where is the owner of the inheritance himself? One day you will be like him! Dust will go back to dust and the soul (life) will go back to its Maker to give account of what he did here on earth. Let us strive to walk close to God while here, do good to people we come across and live everyday giving account to your Maker so that whenever He chooses to call you, you will not be found wanting.
PRAY: Dear Lord, teach me to live in reverence of You and always remember that I belong to You and not to any earthly possessions.
