MIND CLEARING FOR CHRISTIAN SPIRITUALITY (2)

““It’s what comes out of a person that contaminates someone in God’s sight,” he said. “It’s from the inside, from the human heart, that evil thoughts come: sexual sins, thefts, murders, adultery, greed, evil actions, deceit, unrestrained immorality, envy, insults, arrogance, and foolishness. All these evil things come from the inside and contaminate a person in God’s sight.”” Mark 7:20-23 CEB

HAPPY DAY TO YOU: In the real sense of it, everyone is spiritual because we are spirit beings living in a body, it only depends on what spirit controls us. This is why I emphasise Christian spirituality. Spirituality is an inward state that manifests outward. It produces fruit. A baby cries if he is pinched so he knows pain. The same baby bites his mother’s breast and smiles when the mother screams. What he knows gives him pain if done to him makes him happy when he does it to his mother. Nobody teaches him this but the spirit that he inherits from his parents. Everyone comes with the spirit that produces bad fruit for others yet makes him happy. This is why God says: “And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” Genesis 6:5 KJV  This is why man has to consciously renounce the spirit that tends towards evil thoughts that defiles him as Jesus said in our text today. He then willingly invites Christ into his heart to be his Lord and Saviour of his soul from the inborn spirit that is wicked and selfish. This is the process of being born again. The thoughts that defile the man do not go automatically but Christ in the heart makes a man aware of the thoughts of his heart and willingly rejects thoughts that are not Christlike. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23 KJV. This is Christian spirituality. It makes man conscious of the effect of his thoughts and desires on others and not just himself. A Christian spiritual leader for example will think of the effect of his actions in view of the effect on his people rather than the pleasure it gives to his own person. This will make him choose dialogue over war. It is the same in interpersonal relationships. Christian spirituality keeps a man from inflicting pain on his neighbours to satisfy himself. Christian spirituality makes man to call for the help of the Holy Spirit to renounce and overcome thoughts with the motive of benefitting self to the detriment of others. So Christian spirituality is to learn and show others how to put Jesus first, others next and yourself in between (J-O-Y). Other spirituality rearranges it thus: the controlling spirit first, others last and yourself in between. This leads to pain and chaos. Choose today which path you will follow.
