MIND YOUR LANGUAGE
So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this on account of the people standing around, that they may believe that you sent me.” When he had said these things, he cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out.”. John 11:41-43 ESV
GOOD DAY: There is a fundamental lesson in what Jesus said here that touched me so deep about a walk with God. It is the style of the language of Jesus. Some things were basic to His choice of words. He was conscious of the Person that always heard Him because that Person was always with Him. His Father in heaven was always with Him and always heard Him. He as well as Martha and Mary with the people around them knew that His Father always heard Him and will give Him anything that He asked for. As such, Jesus only spoke what He wanted His Father to give Him. He never narrated what the situation on ground was; He never narrated what the Devil had done or was doing. He only narrated what He wanted done at the present. At the grave of Lazarus, He wanted Lazarus to come back to life. He simply asked Lazarus to come out and His Father made Lazarus to come out. I compare this with my own language and the language of people in general. Both Christians and none Christians speak the same language when it comes to talking about issues without being aware of who is with us listening. We narrate how high the cost of living is; how bad the sickness is; how difficult the husband/wife/children are and so on and so forth. Even in Gethsemane, when God did not grant what Jesus wanted, He still maintained His language style; “Let this cup pass from me…” He prayed using the same language style three times concluding that His Father’s will be done.
The lesson for me which I need to learn is to speak what I want and not what is happening that I don’t want. Let us start the practice together today speaking what we want and not what appears to be real. Share how easy it is with me if you wish and together we will learn from each other.
PRAY: Dear Lord, I thank You for giving me a new tongue that speaks only what I want that will give You glory on earth.
