“And a small rudder makes a huge ship turn wherever the pilot chooses to go, even though the winds are strong. In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches. But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire.” James 3:4-5 NLT

HAPPY DAY TO YOU: I was looking at the tongue from a different perspective as I was meditating to write this devotion. The Holy Spirit opened my understanding to the life or death the tongue can give to its owner from his inner man. Do you know that you talk to yourself? Most if not all of the time no one hears what you are saying to yourself. This means that the tongue can be active without producing sound outwardly yet it may be shouting inwardly. It is what you say to yourself with your tongue that matters most.
Listen to your inner talk and try to write down what you hear yourself saying to yourself. It is an exercise that is worth doing daily until you learn to bridle your tongue over what it says to you. Although what others say to you and about you affects you, it is what you say to yourself that does more good or damage. For a long time, I used to talk to myself in the language that the world dictated. I guided my inner man with the words of the world. My life then followed the path of the world with bad outcomes emotionally, financially and worst of all in well being (health). When I became deeply committed to Christ, I learned to speak to myself in the words of Christ. I understood that His death on the cross and His resurrection changed me to a new person in my inner man then I started seeing life in Him and spoke His word to myself. His words give me life, joy, peace, love till my outward storms of life become calm to me.
Today’s Exercise: Today, become aware of what you say to yourself; that is the direction of your life. Say to yourself ten times “No matter what the condition or storm of life is, I will say what Jesus says to myself”.
