MY MOUTH, MY LIFE SHAPING TOOL

“With the fruit of a man’s mouth his stomach will be satisfied; He will be satisfied with the product of his lips.” Proverbs 18:20 NASB1995

HAPPY MORNING TO YOU: It is not just food that actually satisfies the stomach but the fruit of someone’s mouth. I have two friends who belong to the same profession. One says “when there is economic recession, their product is first affected because people want food more than anything else.” The other says “People see peace and beauty in my products so I always sell as my works calm the soul.” The first friend hardly sells and the cares of how he is going to meet his obligations make his stomach feel full that he hardly eats. The second friend always sells and the joy of bumper sales fills his stomach as he gets whatever food he desires. This is in the physical realm.

Now to the spiritual realm. Your desire is your spiritual stomach. When your desire is fulfilled, you are satisfied. No one deliberately desires evil for himself but we do not appreciate the part our mouth plays in the fulfilment of our desires. When we speak like everyone does describing the natural reality like every other person, then we eat the fruit of such talk. If however we get out of the box of popular speaking mode, then we will enjoy what we say. Your mouth has its products. Whatever you say produces after its kind.

In summary, listen to Jesus. ““Now the parable is this: the seed is the word of God.” Luke 8:11 NASB1995  The word is seed. When spoken out, you sow it to the soil of the heart that produced it and it germinates. You keep watering it by speaking it over and over and it keeps growing until it fills the whole of your being. From today, decide to change the way you speak from the obvious reality you see to the unseen reality that only you know in your heart, then you will steer your life towards the reality in your heart. It is compared to the small rudder that controls the big ship.   “Look at the ships also, though they are so great and are driven by strong winds, are still directed by a very small rudder wherever the inclination of the pilot desires. So also the tongue is a small part of the body, and yet it boasts of great things. See how great a forest is set aflame by such a small fire!” James 3:4-5 NASB1995 Use your words well from today.

Today’s Exercise: Dear Lord, I have heard that my tongue is the steering wheel of my life several times but I often leave it to the control of every wind. Help me Lord to have a firm grip on my mouth. Say to yourself ten times and as often as possible (I only speak what I would like to see and experience at all times and not what conditions dictate.)
