HAPPY DAY TO YOU: Most children always look forward to age eighteen when they become legal adults and are free to live their lives without parental controls. But does childhood really stop at age eighteen or anytime at all? This reminds me of the story of Elisha who became Elijah’s son as a young man as it is written; â€śSo Elijah departed from there and found Elisha, Shaphat’s son. He was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him. Elisha was with the twelfth yoke. Elijah met up with him and threw his coat on him.”  1 Kings 19:19 CEB

You can read the whole story of how Elisha became Elijah’s son in the full chapter. From then, Elisha looked at whatever Elijah did and lived exactly like that. After Elijah was taken up by the chariots of fire and the king of Israel needed God’s counsel, he called on Elisha who was described thus: â€śBut Jehoshaphat said, “Is there no prophet of the Lord here from whom we may inquire of the Lord?” One of the servants of the king of Israel answered, “Elisha the son of Shaphat is here, who used to pour water over Elijah’s hands.”” 2 Kings 3:11 AMPAgain, you can enjoy the full story by reading the whole chapter. Even adults still have mentors as fathers. An adult without a mentor will carry on in the deeds of his lineage and childhood society. For example, an adult from a family and society of hardworking, disciplined, honest and godly family and society will carry on as such even without a mentor. Likewise, the person from a lazy, manipulative, drug involvement, greedy and entitled background will continue like that as an adult without a mentor or godly father figure. Life is a continuum of child and parenting cycles. Your character as an adult is a reflection of either your parents, society or your mentor. Sit back as an adult today and check what your background is, who your mentor is and your values and character. Your lifestyle tells a lot of your values. Remember that your life affects the children around you so live responsibly.

Today’s Exercise: Dear Lord, I thank You today for reminding me that I am always a child in need of a good and godly mentor as a father. Remove pride from me so that I will listen to those who check me to make me the best according to Your word. Say to yourself ten times today “I choose a person who loves the Lord and His word as his own guide in life to be my mentor and father”.
