SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS Vs GOD-RIGHTEOUSNESS.
📖
“…In Christ I have a righteousness that is not my own and that does not come from the Law but rather from the faithfulness of Christ. It is the righteousness of God that is based on faith.” Philippians 3:9 CEB

HAPPY DAY TO YOU: Have you noticed that our natural righteous deeds are governed by our self preservation? The system of the world is geared towards self preservation and so we interpret every law and commandment from the point that favours us as individuals. That self-righteousness might be seen as ‘God fearing and loving to others’ but not to God who knows the intentions of the heart. Take for example formulation of vaccines to eradicate diseases. It was a laudable venture that everybody hailed. Only for the secret intentions of financiers of the venture to be exposed by workers whose consciences could not take the death and havoc and discrimination that was behind the production. You may say that is extreme but even in everyday living. Hardly will you find someone who will help others from whom he sees no possibility of gain either immediately or in future. This is why prophet Isaiah says this of our righteousness: “All of us have become like something unclean, and all our righteous acts are like a polluted garment; all of us wither like a leaf, and our iniquities carry us away like the wind.” Isaiah 64:6 HCSB This is because human righteousness is like a filthy rag as it is always tainted with self preservation. It cannot save the soul nor does it seek to know God. It makes the person his own god to himself.
God’s righteousness however is a grace bestowed on any man who accepts Jesus Christ as the Son of God and surrenders to Him as the Lord, Master and Saviour of his soul. His sinful nature is forgiven and he can claim the righteousness of Christ by faith. When God sees such a person, He sees Christ and the price He paid on the cross. The person in Christ is also changed from glory to glory as he beholds the word of God. He stops conforming to the ways of the world living out God’s counsel that says; “Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.” Romans 12:2 HCSB. This is God-righteousness, being transformed to the mind of Christ. The conclusion is that self-righteousness is self centered and self fulfilling while kingdom righteousness is God centered fulfilling the will of God. Knowing this, what is your kind of righteousness? Do you do what you consider right because it satisfies your desires and promises you self preservation? Or do you do what the Spirit of God says to you that is right to please God even when your five senses tell you it is not for your self preservation? Tomorrow, we will look at the peace and joy in the Holy Spirit that accompany kingdom righteousness.

Today’s Exercise: Thank You God for showing me the difference between my righteousness and Your righteousness. I choose your righteousness and make pleasing You my daily goal. Say to yourself ten times and as often as you remember “I choose the righteousness of Christ which is a clean garment for my soul”.
