“Do not get drunk with wine, for that is wickedness (corruption, stupidity), but be filled with the [Holy] Spirit and constantly guided by Him. Speak to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, [offering praise by] singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; always giving thanks to God the Father for all things, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;” Ephesians 5:18-20 AMP

HAPPY DAY TO YOU: Two friends were chatting and one asked the other how he is and how life has been treating him. He replied that life is not treating him well at all. Things are tight and troubles don’t just stay away from him. The other friend said it is the same with him and he keeps himself together by drinking with friends in the club in the evenings. It is usual now for people to say that life does not smile at them and they keep happy with alcohol, partying, food, games, gambling, drugs or just gossiping about. All these give temporary relief that makes them sleep and forget their sorrows only to wake up and meet the same situations if not worse than the way they left them the night before. What does God prescribe for believers to overcome the tribulations of life?

To some extent, everyone realises that the discomfort they feel is spiritual and that is why they take all sorts of measures to calm their spirits down. The only way out is to invite the Holy Spirit of God into their lives and connect with Him through Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, [offering praise by] singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; always giving thanks to God the Father for all things, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. It sounds too simple to be true but I have found it to be so. Just as you visit the altar of the worldly spirits, visit the altar of God in praise, psalms and thanksgiving to God. It works but you won’t know until you practise it. With psalms praise and thanksgiving to God in the Lord Jesus Christ, your heart becomes open to what you need to do to have relief. No matter what the situation is, there is a way out. That way out is by and with you but the problem is the weeds and worries in the heart that do not allow for the word of God to be planted in the heart so it can germinate therein. Instead of calming your spirit outside of the Holy Spirit, read the psalms, praise God in songs and thank Him in Jesus Christ. Remember this instruction; “Do not mix with winebibbers, Or with gluttonous eaters of meat; For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, And drowsiness will clothe a man with rags.” Proverbs 23:20–21 NKJV

Today’s Exercise: Thank You Lord that you told us that in the world we will have tribulations but we should be of good cheer for you have overcome the world. John 16:33. Say to yourself ten times and as often as you can (I enter into the victory Christ as won by singing praises to God and thanking Him)
