“For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” II Corinthians 4:17-18NKJV

GOOD DAY TO YOU: ‘Is it possible to be emotionally and mentally stable in this world’? Someone asked me. ‘You see, no one knows what tomorrow will bring. So how can one be stable? Sometimes I even think the rich people of the world design conditions that will keep everybody tense and be mentally unbalanced’. I said to him that stability and mental wellness depends on individuals. It depends on where you choose to fix your gaze. The world throws different things at you at different times but the word of God gives the promise of God that gives hope and life in every circumstance no matter what the world presents. It is left to each individual to choose what to focus on each time. Things of the world are temporal while things of the kingdom of God are unchanging and eternal. Each person will choose his reality. The reality you choose determines your emotional and mental stability and health.
To maintain my gaze on the kingdom of God, I bought a biology practical notebook to use as journal. I use the ruled side to record anything that bothers me and I use the plain side to write what God says about the issue. No matter how pressing the natural condition is, I keep my focus on the side of the word of God. The more I keep my gaze on the side of the word of God the more stable and at peace my heart is. That is the reality I choose because the events of the world will pass, it is temporary and can’t be my reality. My reality is the eternal promise of God which is unseen at the moment so contradictory temporal conditions are stepping stones to eternal glory. And so, no matter what happens at any time, I see it as a step towards my eternal glory and I am stable mentally waiting for God’s glory to manifest. The question for you today is to choose what your reality is: the changing seen natural conditions or the unseen promises of God that are unchanging? Whichever one you choose will become your reality and give you its fruit.

Today’s Exercise: Dear Lord, thank You for showing me that any earthly condition is temporal but Your promise is eternal and unchanging. Help me to focus on Your eternal promises which keep the heart steady. Say to yourself ten times and as often as you can, “I do not look at things which are seen but at those which are not seen so I do not lose heart”.
