THE POWER WITHIN US
Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us,

GOOD DAY. Power is the ability or capacity to do work. Whatever work a person intends to do, the power to do it comes from within that person. If I want more work done, I must increase the power that is at work within me. What is this power in us that produces work? That power is called FAITH. But someone may well say, “You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works.” James 2:18 NASB1995
Faith produces work. Faith is within us, it is unseen but its effect is seen and felt. Faith is the quantum within that moves things from without. It is not the food we eat or the physical strength a person processes or youthfulness that produces work rather it is the faith within the person that does. Faith has grades. Let us see Peter walking on water. ‘But seeing the wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and took hold of him, and said to him, “You of LITTLE FAITH, why did you doubt?”’Matthew 14:30-31 NASB1995. Jesus said Peter had little faith. He was able to work a little distance on water.
Of the Syrophoenician woman whose daughter was possessed by a demon, Jesus said ‘Then Jesus said to her, “O woman, your FAITH IS GREAT; it shall be done for you as you wish.” And her daughter was healed at once.’ Matthew 15:28 NASB1995 Faith can be great.
Faith can increase as the apostles asked Jesus to increase their faith: The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” Luke 17:5 NASB1995
Faith can fail a person as it did Peter when Jesus was arrested: “but I have prayed for you, that your FAITH MAY NOT FAIL; and you, when once you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.” Luke 22:32 NASB1995
Faith grows. Paul speaking to the Corinthians said:
‘not boasting beyond our measure, that is, in other men’s labors, but with the hope that as your FAITH GROWS, we will be, within our sphere, enlarged even more by you,’
2 Corinthians 10:15 NASB1995
God has given each person a measure of faith.
“For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a MEASURE OF FAITH.”
Romans 12:3 NASB1995
It is this measure of faith that we grow until it is big enough to do mighty works. Faith is the power that is at work within us. Like I said earlier, we do not work because of food that we eat or youthfulness but we work according to the power within us. We shall consider some works of faith and how to grow this power as we go along.
PRAY: Lord, increase my faith.
