THE WAY OF LOVE

“A person who covers an offense pursues love, but one who repeats the matter separates friends.” Proverbs 17:9 EHV

HAPPY DAY TO YOU: The month of February has been labelled the month of LOVE. Jesus enjoins us to love each other as He himself loves us. It is therefore mandatory for the Christian to love if Christ really lives in him. One act that separates friends and fosters hatred is repetition of offence.

I remember an elderly man who would always ask couples or relatives who brought matters to him for settlement not to repeat the offence as that will make the wound hurt deeper. He used to say that no one can pinpoint the beginning of offence as something from both parties caused reaction from the other unknowingly. Therefore he used to ask the parties to apologise to each other and bury the offence. Those who chose to agree with him became stronger friends but those who did not and kept repeating and rehearsing the offence became enemies. Even married partners were separated from each other because either of them refused to bury offences or felt he/she had buried too much.

I also notice from my own experience that each time I repeat an offence, its venom comes up again stronger and I am moved to avenge myself which ends up hurting me deeper than my offender.

I leave you today to look into your life and see what relationships you are killing because of an offence to which you have surrendered your power and see how you can gain back your power to love and live.
