UNDERSTANDING THE MIND OR HEART OF MAN.

HAPPY DAY TO YOU: It happens so often with everyone but we hardly take note of it or recognise it for what it is. Let me give you an example. In our secondary school days, a girl used to ‘run mouth’ as we used to say. Thrice, she ran mouth about me and the pain it caused me was deep. We left school fifty years ago and she neither came to my consciousness once nor did our paths meet since then until we met at a function after forty years. As soon as I saw her, the pain she caused me then came to me vividly. I reacted to her just as at the time we were in school. This shows that there are two parts to my mind. The conscious mind and the subconscious one. I am familiar with the conscious mind as it is my ‘mind of now’. My subconscious mind however is my ‘mind of yesterday’, my memory bank. The Greek word for heart is translated as inner man, mind, will, heart, understanding, inner part, heart (of man), soul, heart (of man) mind, knowledge, thinking, reflection, memory, inclination, resolution, determination (of will), conscience, heart (of moral character), as seat of appetites, as seat of emotions and passions, as seat of courage. This is why heart and mind are used interchangeably. Information travels between the conscious and subconscious mind in this cycle; the conscious mind hears or perceives and feels an outward event or spoken word, then passes everything about the event to the subconscious for storage. The conscious mind forgets it but it is stored in the subconscious to the detail. It remains stored and anytime a similar event is sent by the conscious mind, the subconscious recalls it and signals the conscious mind to react as how the stored information dictates. This helps the person to either avoid pain or welcome the positive feeling. This simply put is the mind of man and that determines his life. This is why you have to guard what goes deep in your heart because once stored in your subconscious mind, life issues from there. I leave you to think about this today and observe why you are who you are. Take time to read this over as it is the beginning of the transformation of life.

Today’s Exercise: Thank You Lord for making me know my mind. Search my mind Lord, see all the wicked ways in me and cleanse them Lord. Say to yourself (I yield my mind to the Holy Spirit for cleansing.)
