KNOWING GOD.
“And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.” Exodus 3:13-14 KJV
GOOD DAY. Knowing anybody starts from knowing his name. It is the same with knowing God. Name identifies a person and in times of joy or sorrow, you can call your friend by name. I love the culture of the western world. They call people by their names no matter how old or how young. Moses had an encounter with God when God was ready to send him to go and deliver the children of Israel from Egypt to fulfill His promise to Abraham. This is the first direct asking of God’s name and He gave a name that is very proactive and relevant to all mankind at all times. He said to Moses ‘I AM THAT I AM’ He said so shall you say to the children of Israel I AM sent me. This is the most proactive and revealing Name of God that gives rise to all other specific Names that He has been called since then. Jesus even referred to it while talking to the teachers of His time.
“Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.” John 8:58 KJV
Think deeply on this name. In whatever form you see Me, that I AM. You see me as your God, then I AM; you see me as your Lover, then I AM; you see me as your judge, then I AM; you see me as bad, then I AM and the list is endless.
There are two things implied in this name. First, if He is the I AM, then I should refer all my queries and thanksgiving and pains alike to Him. Second is that He is in me. My identity is I AM as well. He calls me god, daughter of the Most High God. I am struggling to comprehend this. Whatever position I assume, I AM in me makes that real, He embodies Himself as that. No wonder Jesus said to those on the left thus: ““Then they too will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or without clothes, or sick, or in prison, and not help You? ’ “T hen He will answer them, ‘I assure you: Whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for Me either.’ “And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.””
Matthew 25:44-46 HCSB
He identified with the sick, the stranger, the imprisoned, the hungry etc.
The implication of this name is as broad as life itself. If you say I Am sick, then you are sick. No wonder we are told “beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruning hooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong.” Joel 3:10 KJV. I want you to spend today thinking of the name of God “I AM THAT I AM”.
PRAY: Thank You Lord that I share in Your I AM THAT I AM.
