AWARENESS WITH UNDERSTANDING MAKES AUTHORITY EFFECTIVE

“Now, there were seven itinerant Jewish exorcists, sons of Sceva the high priest, who took it upon themselves to use the name and authority of Jesus over those who were demonized. They would say, “We cast you out in the name of the Jesus that Paul preaches!” One day, when they said those words, the demon in the man replied, “I know about Jesus, and I recognize Paul, but who do you think you are?” Then the demonized man jumped on them and threw them to the ground, beating them mercilessly. He overpowered the seven exorcists until they all ran out of the house naked and badly bruised.”  Acts 19:13–16 TPT

HAPPY DAY TO YOU: Awareness without understanding makes authority of no effect. What is authority? Authority is permission given by someone in power to act on his behalf. Jesus is the head of all powers in heaven, on earth and below the earth. In His name every knee must bow. The seven sons of Sceva were using the name and authority of Jesus to cast out demons but the demon not only disregarded them, he overpowered them and deeply  wounded them. Authority makes someone the head of those under one’s influence and if the head does what is not permitted in the presence of his followers, he loses the authority over them. If you live like the demons, you cannot have authority over the same demons to cast them out. Listen as Jesus puts it. “And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan?”  Mark 3:23 KJV

If you want to use the authority of Jesus, you must leave the company of demons and live in the company of Jesus. Living in Jesus makes you identifiable with Him so the demons recognise Jesus in you and bow to the authority of Jesus when you cast them out. Hear again what the demon said: “And the evil spirit answered and said to them, “I recognize Jesus, and I know about Paul, but who are you?”” Acts 19:15 NASB1995 The same question is put to you today: Who are you that demons should respect and obey you? This is the reason why living in agreement with Jesus Christ is very important so you can have His power to live victoriously. Today, ask yourself who you are and see how you are aligned with Jesus especially in your heart and thoughts. 

Today’s Exercise: Search me Jesus and know my heart. Take out all wicked ways in me and lead me in the way everlasting. Say to yourself ten times today “I yield to the search light of the Holy Spirit to clean my heart today and always”.
