“And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:8-11 NKJV

HAPPY DAY TO YOU: The above is one of the scriptures I got to know and love when I started having a living relationship with Christ. But I observed that calling the name of Jesus did not make knees bow in real life situations as people call on the name of Jesus and most times, nothing happens. Few times however, we call the name and it does work immediately. This has been bothering my mind as all knees bowing at His name is one of the benefits of His cross and resurrection. What could be the matter?
In my search and meditation, I was able to gather some reasons why calling the name of Jesus seems ineffective. Highest on the list is that we call the name of Jesus in vain. While lying, jesting, and while doing evil. Since we have done this so much, Christ must not be seen as supporting evil and falsehood. Next is we are not close to Jesus. We worship Him with our mouths but our hearts are far from Him. “‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ ”” Matthew 15:8-9 NKJV
This makes the name of Jesus a cliché as we see it now because we do not really believe in the Name. The victory is won by the obedience of Christ to die for the sin of mankind. For those who draw close to Him and worship Him with their hearts and those who do not take His name in vain, all knees actually bow at His name. Refrain from the habit of calling Jesus’ name in vain from now. Never swear with His name again and draw near to Him with your heart.

Today’s Exercise: Lord Jesus, I need Your name to be effective in my life. Guard my heart and mouth from calling Your name in vain. Say to yourself ten times and as often as possible “The name of Jesus is precious in my eyes and I will never call it in vain again”.

Over familiarity and unfamiliarity make the name of Jesus Christ ineffective in our mouths. We have inadvertently brought Him to our earthly level when He is God who can only be related with in the Spirit. Only those who know Him in Truth and Spirit have the privilege of seeing things shift for them at the mention of His name. May God help us in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Amen!!!
