KEEP YOUR HEART WITH GOD.

“And Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that is in thine heart; for the LORD is with thee.” 2 Samuel 7:3 KJV

HAPPY DAY TO YOU: At the time of David, kings and people sought the counsel of God from prophets. David was a shepherd boy who himself was shepherded by God. You can get this from Psalm 23. When he became the king, he was very close to the prophet and he would always ask for God’s counsel before he did anything. The result of closeness to God was that he had a testimony of being a man after God’s heart. Now that there are no prophets, how can a person be that close to God that God will say he could do whatever is in his heart? 

GETTING CLOSE TO GOD: Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. First, you must decide to draw near to God. “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” James 4:8 NKJV. You should say this verse to yourself. Personalise it and when you say it to yourself several times and days, until it quickens your heart and how you are to draw near to God will be revealed to you in person. As you do whatever is revealed to you and stay your heart on God, He will keep you in peace and put thoughts in your heart that are pleasing to Him. To also know God’s will from thoughts that enter your heart, you keep transforming your mind with the word of God.  “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Romans 12:2 NKJV. If you renew your mind by the word of God, then you will be close to God and you will know what His will is in any situation then you can do what comes to your mind. If you don’t get it right, He has His way of stopping you. He sent the prophet to go and tell David not to build His temple even though it was a good idea. To summarise it, you become a man after God’s heart by drawing near to Him in your thoughts all the time and renewing your mind with His word so that you can know what is acceptable to Him.

Today’s Exercise: Thank You Lord for showing me how to draw close to you so that my thoughts will be Your thoughts. Help me to be closer to You in my mind all the time. Say to yourself ten times and as often as you can “I hold God in my thoughts all the time today and always”.
