BUILDING FAITH IN REAL TERMS: FOUNDATION

📖

““Do not let your heart be troubled (afraid, cowardly). Believe [confidently] in God and trust in Him, [have faith, hold on to it, rely on it, keep going and] believe also in Me.” John 14:1 AMP

HAPPY DAY TO YOU: When I was told about faith, I was opened up to an invisible realm without being taught how to operate in it. Practising what I was told led to lots of frustration and disappointment. I discussed with many Christians who have been in the journey much earlier than me and they had the same struggles. It took time and study before I got what to do to build and be rooted in my faith. If you are interested in building your faith, follow and practice the things you will understand from reading our next series.

  1. Faith must have a foundation or root.

The foundation of faith is to know the source or root of your faith. For the Christian, you need to believe that God exists and Jesus Christ is His Son through whom you become God’s child. I used Hebrews 11:6/John 1:12 as the foundation for my faith. How did I do it? Hebrews 11:6 says “But without faith it is impossible to [walk with God and] please Him, for whoever comes [near] to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He rewards those who [earnestly and diligently] seek Him.” John 1:6 says “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:” John 1:12 NKJV

I kept saying to myself, “God exists and rewards those who seek Him and Jesus makes me His child” as often as I could. Why was I doing this? I discovered that faith is not an intellectual matter. It is not something I can scientifically figure out like 1+1=2. Faith is beyond reasoning. It is a conviction that cannot be explained, not even to yourself. When you hear something said to yourself long enough, you believe it and it shapes your life. This is the principle God instructs in Deuteronomy 30:14  “But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, so that you may obey it.” And in Joshua 1:8,  “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” Joshua 1:8 NKJV

This implies that if you stop hearing the foundation of your faith said repeatedly to yourself, you will lose or become weak in faith.  This is why Jesus charged the apostles who walked with Him for three years and those of us too who will accept their story to have faith in God and in Him  and not be afraid. I also noticed that if I don’t reaffirm the foundation of my faith regularly, I can fail in faith. We shall continue on building on our faith foundation tomorrow God willing.

Today’s Exercise: Thank you Lord for pointing me to the fact that even the apostles that walked with You for three years had to work on their faith when You would have gone. Make me humble enough to work on my faith as well. Say to yourself ten times and as often as you can “I know that God exists and Jesus exists”.
