WATCH THE FRUIT

“For each tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they pick grapes from a briar bush. The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart.” Luke 6:44–45 NASB1995

HAPPY DAY TO YOU: Apart from the natural state of your life that people see, there is the feeling that your words or even your presence invokes in them. There is a woman who is very rich and attractive to the eye but the fruit of her words in people she spoke to keeps them away from her. “Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person.” Colossians 4:6 NASB1995. Your words must always be with grace to encourage and minister grace, peace and love to your hearers. We are further admonished thus; “Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.” Ephesians 4:29 NASB1995 so we must watch the fruit our words produce in people so we can choose to be good trees.

I have also noticed that apart from the fruit it produces in others, it produces fruit for the person who speaks unwholesome words as well. The bible says “Who at any time serves as a soldier at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard and does not eat the fruit of it? Or who tends a flock and does not use the milk of the flock?” 1 Corinthians 9:7 NASB1995. This is why you see a person who has everything that we know should foster happiness and contentment go about as though he has nothing while the person who has nothing but filled with good words in him is happy and content. Watch the fruit your words produce to know what tree that you are.

Today’s Exercise: Thank You Lord that I can assess and know what kind of fruit my word produces. Help me to be truthful to myself and change wherever I need to. Say to yourself ten times today and as often as you can (I invite the Holy Spirit to purge my heart of all unwholesomeness that pollutes and makes my words bear bad fruit and I cooperate with Him.)
