HOW DID WE GET HERE?

“When you have eaten your fill, be sure to praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you. “But that is the time to be careful! Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the Lord your God and disobey his commands, regulations, and decrees that I am giving you today. For when you have become full and prosperous and have built fine homes to live in, and when your flocks and herds have become very large and your silver and gold have multiplied along with everything else, be careful! Do not become proud at that time and forget the Lord your God, who rescued you from slavery in the land of Egypt. Remember the Lord your God. He is the one who gives you power to be successful, in order to fulfill the covenant he confirmed to your ancestors with an oath. “But I assure you of this: If you ever forget the Lord your God and follow other gods, worshiping and bowing down to them, you will certainly be destroyed.” Deuteronomy 8:10–14, 18–19 NLT

HAPPY DAY TO YOU: A man lost all that he had through wrong decisions and he took to cheating people thinking he was being smart. When his friend went to visit him in prison, his first question to the friend was “how did I get here?” When I look at the world I knew as a young child, I often ask myself and those around me “How did we get here?”

I knew a world where there was love; how did we get to a world where there is hatred? I knew a world where there was food; how did we get to a world where there is inadequate food and famine; I knew a world where there was peace; how did we get to a world where there are wars; a world of my brother’s keeper to that of my brother’s killer?

Our text gives the answer. We grew fat in technology and inventions then we forgot God. We forgot it was God who gave us power to do all the marvellous things that we did. We drove Him out of all our systems, teaching him to our children in schools is even in contention. We made our own rules and dumped His own. Now here comes where our Godless living has brought us.

Is there a way out of our predicament? Yes! It is a return to God. If we each return to God, then we shall be restored.

Today’s Exercise: Thank You Lord for showing me that forgetting You leads to self destruction. Help me to keep You in my consciousness at all times. Say to yourself ten times and as often as you can (I keep the Lord before me all the time by thanking Him)
