PUT YOURSELF IN THE OTHER PERSON’S SHOES

MATTHEW 12:11-12
“And, behold, a man was there who had a withered hand. And they asked Him, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbaths?” so that they might accuse Him. But He said to them, “What man is there among you who, if he has one sheep that falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out?” Matthew 12:10-11 AFV

HAPPY DAY TO YOU: There is so much of the Pharisees and the religious people of then in each of us. We had a culture of hiring children as maids in those days. Or children of the less privileged members of a family would be sent to the privileged ones to live with them and go to school while helping. The women in most cases would treat the helpers as if they were not human beings. Things that their children of the same age group could not do were expected from the helpers. These helpers were beaten like goats whenever they failed or made mistakes. Unfortunately, I was like that when I too grew up but one day, the above scripture touched me deeply and I repented.

I looked at the boy living with me and going to school and put my grandson in his shoes. I felt really bad imagining my grandson doing what I expected of him and since that day, I became a changed person treating him like my grandson.

If we each can put ourselves in the shoes of others, there will be less evil done to each other and the community in general. The people of then were treating their sheep better than their fellow human beings. What about you? Do you value things more than people around you? How do you treat your workers; as if they are not human beings like you? If you were to swap positions, will you be happy if they treat you as you are doing to them? Think deep and see what changes you need to effect. May the Lord help us to show mercy to all people no matter who they are.
