ADVANTAGE OF READING THROUGH THE BIBLE YEARLY

What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. Is there anything of which one can say, “Look! This is something new”? It was here already, long ago; it was here before our time. ‭Ecclesiastes 1:9-10 NIV‬

HAPPY DAY TO YOU; Today,we come to the final discussion on the advantages of reading through the bible yearly. Our text today gives a broad picture of why we should read through the bible yearly. You can choose to read through it in a shorter time but at least read through in one year. You may ask why one year? It is because twelve months (one year) is the complete cycle of time unit. The cycle for time repeats in one year.

You see, there is nothing new under the sun meaning nothing new on earth. You see my friend, when you read through the bible, you will be amazed at the records of everything that had happened before which are prototypes of things happening now that can also happen in the future. From personal experiences to communal ones, from science to arts, religion, psychology and anything that you can think of.

Let me bring out one or two examples. Space adventure was first recorded in the bible. Read Genesis 11:1-9. Mankind attempted to build a tower to reach the abode of God.

Rockets for fighting first recorded in the bible

In Jerusalem he (king Uzziah) made devices invented for use on the towers and on the corner defenses so that soldiers could shoot arrows and hurl large stones from the walls. His fame spread far and wide, for he was greatly helped until he became powerful. ‭2 Chronicles 26:15 NIV‬

Talk of contraception, it was first mentioned in the bible. Check Genesis 38:8-10 where Onan used withdrawal method to prevent conception. There is nothing new that is not recorded in the bible and what about aircraft, David said I said, “Oh, that I had the wings of a dove! I would fly away and be at rest. “‭Psalms 55:6 NIV‬.  The idea of aircraft is hidden there.

If you read through the bible yearly, it becomes hidden in your heart so that the Spirit of God will use it to inspire you and you will become wise. You will see the events and how they progressed in the past then you get instructed.
